About you
We are looking for you, an ambitious master’s student (m/f), to support our construction chemicals by doing an internship project in developing new construction chemical solutions to improve construction materials for our location in Seneffe, Belgium.
Qualifications
You are currently studying for a Master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry, material science, or chemical engineering.
You have a good working knowledge of English or French
You have an interest in product development work (new product, new application), Safety is our top priority, and other desired attributes are critical thinking, troubleshooting, and organization. An individual contributor with is also a good team player is required. The candidate should demonstrate a passion for chemistry and applying innovative ideas to a real application, the real world.
You can start between January and September of 2023 for a period of a minimum of 4 months (exact timing to be discussed). You will be remunerated.

Project description
The goal of the proposed project is to support and drive our expansion of silicone and acrylic additives for construction materials. In collaboration with the Dow Construction chemical team, formulation work is conducted in the European R&D lab (Seneffe in collaboration with labs located in Germany). This project includes formulation work of silicone or acrylic-based water repellents for construction applications as well as application testing on different construction materials to confirm the performance of the prototypes.

Gain hands-on experience in formulation science, developing performance testing, and knowledge of construction material chemistry.
Work on a well-defined topic. You will be responsible to generate lab data and analyzing and reporting them. A new set of experiments are discussed with team members to define the next steps. We expect you to be self-motivated, gain autonomy during the traineeship, and take full ownership of the subject after some adaptation time.
The Recipient is expected to have master 1-master 2 levels in chemistry or chemical engineering you will gain hands-on experience in a formulation based on silicone and testing the formulation to assess the performance of protecting construction materials.
